Beethovenfest Bonn—the annual monthlong event in Beethoven’s hometown of Bonn, Germany—has announced programming details for its 2013 festival, from September 5 to October 5. This year the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is among the orchestras scheduled to perform, with Music Director Manfred Honeck leading repertoire to include John Corigliano’s Conjurer Concerto for percussion and string orchestra, with soloist Martin Grubinger; Ravel’s Spanish Rhapsody and Bolero; Strauss’s Ein Heldenleben; and Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1, with Yuja Wang as soloist. Other scheduled performers include the London Symphony Orchestra, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, NDR-Sinfonieorchester, Bamberg Symphony, and the World Doctors Orchestra. The German Women’s Jazz Orchestra will present a program inspired by Kundry, the character from Wagner’s opera Parsifal. The Istanbul University State Conservatory Symphony Orchestra will perform works by two Turkish composers: the Violin Concerto of Ulvi Cemal Erkin (1906-72) and a new work by Zeynep Gediziloglu commissioned for the festival.
