In Friday’s (3/29) Las Vegas Sun (Nevada), Andrea Domanick writes, “The Las Vegas Philharmonic will give 32 high school musicians a chance to play with the big leagues, inviting members of the Clark County School District Honor Brass Ensemble to perform with the orchestra at the Smith Center for the Performing Arts on April 6. The Brass Ensemble, which includes the best players from high schools in the district, will collaborate with Las Vegas Philharmonic in a concert titled ‘A Touch of Brass.’ The Philharmonic’s 12-person brass section will join the young musicians for a special performance of Gabrieli’s Canzon Septimi Toni [No.] 2 led by conductor Daniel Meyer. The concert also will feature an arrangement of excerpts from Carmen, Brahms’ Symphony No. 3 and Barber’s Overture to School for Scandal. ‘A Touch of Brass’ marks Las Vegas Philharmonic’s penultimate concert of the 2012-2013 season, which concludes May 4 with a final concert titled ‘Celestial Bodies’ featuring Holst’s The Planets.”
