Among the orchestras and ensembles planning world premieres in April are the New Juilliard Ensemble and the Eugene and Utah symphonies. On April 12, the New Juilliard Ensemble will perform five world premieres at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall: Mohammed Fairouz’s Mighty Triborough, David Hertzberg’s femminina, oscura, Eugene Astapov’s Myths of Ancient Bosphorus, Luca Lombardi’s Welcome and Farewell, and Laura Elise Schwendinger’s Sinfonietta. The program is the final of four 2012-13 programs for the New Juilliard Ensemble, currently in its twentieth season under director and founder Joel Sachs. In Oregon, the Eugene Symphony and Music Director Danail Rachev will perform the world premiere of Tomas Svoboda’s Concerto for Clarinet on April 18, on a program also featuring Orff’s Carmina Burana. Principal Clarinet Michael Anderson, in his 25th season with the orchestra, will serve as soloist. The work was commissioned three years ago and is a project that comes out of the orchestra’s refocusing on creating new works and hosting more composer residencies. Anderson will also lead a free master class on April 16 at the Hult Center. On April 26, Music Director Thierry Fischer will lead the Utah Symphony in the world premiere of British composer Simon Holt’s Ellsworth 2, a five-part piece based on Ellsworth Kelly’s “Painting for a White Wall.” The commissioned work appears on a program at Salt Lake City’s Abravanel Hall with music by Berlioz and Mozart.
