In Friday’s (4/19) News-Press (Naples, Florida), Lindsay Downey writes, “The Phil is no longer The Phil. During a reception Friday night, The Philharmonic Center for the Arts’ President and CEO Kathleen van Bergen announced a new name: Artis-Naples. … The arts organization, which will begin its 25th season in the fall, began working nearly a year ago with New York firm Berliner Benson to conduct surveys, focus groups and interviews regarding patrons’ perceptions. Van Bergen played for the audience man-on-the-street interviews in which many said they were unaware of the campus’s 13-year-old art museum. … Many patrons applauded as they heard the name change, designed to bring awareness to all of the organization’s cultural offerings … Artis-Naples means ‘the collective arts in Naples’ in Latin and lets the organization play on the word ‘Artis’ as ‘Art is.’ … The Patty and Jay Baker Naples Museum of Art will be known as the Baker Museum, and the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra will keep its name.” In addition to a new brand, the Naples Philharmonic has a new music director. In Friday’s (4/19) Naples News (Florida), Harriet Howard Heithaus writes, “Russian-born Andrey Boreyko will become the next music director of the Naples Philharmonic Ochestra, the result of a search that lasted more than two years. … He conducted again at a Masterworks concert with the Naples Philharmonic in December and is on the schedule for its New Year program in2014. Boreyko also currently serves as music director of the Orchestre National de Belgique and the Dusseldorf Symphony Orchestra.” Boreyko starts fulltime with the Philharmonic during the 2014-15 season.
