In Tuesday’s (4/30) Charlotte Observer (North Carolina), Laura Toppman reports, “Robert Stickler, interim executive director of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra since Jonathan Martin left in August, has taken the job permanently. As president and executive director of the region’s largest professional performing group, he’ll administer a budget of more than $9 million and manage an administrative staff of 20. The orchestra employs more than 100 musicians, 64 of them full-time. Stickler, who’ll answer to a 43-member board of directors, began his service with the symphony as a member (and later president) of the Oratorio Singers of Charlotte’s board. He joined the Charlotte Symphony board five years ago. The Chicago native worked as a communications executive at Bank of America and several of its predecessors. He says he intends to ‘focus on continuing the improvement in our financial condition, including adding to the CSO endowment, and creating a strategic plan for the organization. (The orchestra has) made great strides financially in the last 12 months, increasing the number of donors by 13 percent and contributions of more than $2,000 by 22 per cent.’ ”
