Mary Ann Hanson, a volunteer with Oregon’s Eugene Symphony, and Edie Volk, a volunteer with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra in Tennessee, were recently honored for the contributions they have made to their communities. Hanson, a Eugene Symphony board member who served as president from 2006 to 2012, was recognized at a United Way luncheon on April 18, where she was named the city’s Arts & Culture Volunteer of the Year. The Knoxville Symphony’s Edie Volk was recently chosen as a 2013 Hometown Hero Honoree by Home Federal Bank, which annually recognizes local volunteers for their community work with a $2,500 donation to their chosen nonprofit organization. Volk was cited for her support of the KSO’s scholarship program that provides tuition to students participating in the Knoxville Symphony Youth Orchestra.
