What can innovation and experimentation today mean for orchestras ten years from now? The session “Imagining 2023,” to be held on June 18 at the League of American Orchestras Conference in St. Louis, looks to explore the notion with Elizabeth Merritt, founding director of the Center for the Future of Museums, a think tank that generates ideas, proposals, reports, and dreams about what museums might be. In SymphonyNOW, Merritt discusses balancing innovation with the tried-and-true, and the expanding role orchestras might play in their communities.
