In Thursday’s (5/16) Palm Beach Daily News (Florida), Jan Sjostrom writes, “Michael Finn, Palm Beach Symphony’s executive director, will not be returning next season, board chairman Dale McNulty said. McNulty cited ‘philosophical differences’ between Finn and the board regarding the symphony’s direction. The organization’s finances weren’t an issue, he said. ‘We’re in moderately good financial shape,’ he said. ‘It’s direction—what to do, where to go and how to do it.’ Under Finn’s management, the symphony, which has an annual operating budget of just under $1 million, ended 2011-12 in the black, the first time it had done so since 2005-06. Finn’s tenure will conclude when the fiscal year ends May 31. Finn and the board are scheduled to meet today to discuss Finn’s settlement agreement, McNulty said. Finn declined to comment. Finn joined the symphony in November 2011, after Ray Robinson retired as artistic director and general manager. … In Palm Beach, Finn aimed to diversify the symphony’s programming with more soloists, and a variety of music and ensembles suited to the organization’s diverse venues.”
