The Portland Symphony Orchestra in Maine has named NORMAN HUYNH (pronounced “When”) to the newly created post of assistant conductor and community liaison. His duties will include assisting Music Director Robert Moody in planning, programming, and executing the PSO’s Discovery and Youth concerts, as well as such community events as the PSO Music Lovers’ Luncheons and Conductor’s Circle Onstage. Huynh served most recently as cover conductor at the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. A native of Alabama, he earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of Alabama, where he played euphonium in the university’s Million Dollar Band. He holds a master’s degree in orchestral conducting from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, where he was assistant conductor of the Peabody Symphony Orchestra, Peabody Concert Orchestra, Peabody Singers, and Peabody-Hopkins Chorus.
