Four additions to the musician roster have been announced by the Des Moines Symphony in Iowa. The appointments, effective with the start of the 2013-14 season, are MASHA POPOVA, principal flute; KEVIN JUDGE, principal bassoon; ANDY NEWBEGIN, bass trombone; and HILLARY TIDMAN, second flute.

Masha Popova, principal flute, holds a master’s degree from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University and a bachelor’s degree from the Curtis Institute of Music. She has performed with the Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra and the National Repertory Orchestra (Breckenridge, Colo.), and will perform this summer at Tanglewood Music Center.

Kevin Judge, principal bassoon, also holds a master’s degree from the Shepherd School. He has participated in Florida’s Sarasota Music Festival, Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, Cal., and as a member of the Des Moines Symphony Youth Orchestra for five years.

Andy Newbegin, bass trombone, holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Minnesota and is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree at the University of Kansas. He was a finalist at the 2013 Big 12 Bass Trombone Solo Competition in Lubbock, Texas, and can be heard on two Naxos releases featuring the University of Kansas Wind Ensemble.

Hillary Tidman, second flute, is a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. She will complete her Bachelor of Music degree from Northwestern University in June of this year.
