The Louisville Orchestra Board of Directors has selected JAMES S. WELCH JR. as president. He is currently vice chairman of Brown-Forman Corporation, where he has served in a variety of executive roles since joining the company in 1989 as manager of corporate planning and investor relations. Prior to that he was vice president of operations at Source Air Corporation, a Charlottesville-based company that he co-founded. Welch began his career with J.P. Morgan & Co., in New York, becoming a vice president in 1986. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Princeton University. Welch is a Louisville native and vice chairman of that city’s Downtown Development Corporation. His community activities have also included serving as chairman of the Kentucky Chapter of the Nature Conservancy and as a trustee of the Bernheim Forest and Research Arboretum.
