American conductor DENNIS RUSSELL DAVIES has renewed his contract as chief conductor of Switzerland’s Basel Symphony Orchestra. He has held the post since 2009, and the new contract extends his tenure through the 2015-16 season. Also music director and chief conductor of Bruckner Orchestra Linz and Linz Opera, Davies has guest conducted throughout the world and held numerous music directorships in both Europe and the U.S. He is professor emeritus of orchestral conducting at the Salzburg Mozarteum, conductor laureate of the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, and conductor laureate of New York’s American Composers Orchestra, of which he is a co-founder. A native of Toledo, Ohio, Davies is a graduate of The Juilliard School.
