In Sunday’s (6/16) Journal Sentinel (Milwaukee), Kaitlin Phillips reports that Alexander Mandl, acting concertmaster of the Racine (Wis.) Symphony Orchestra, has been appointed concertmaster “effective at the orchestra’s first [2013-14 season] concert on June 28.” The RSO season “kicks off with ‘American Originals,’ the first of two summer pops concerts [featuring] lively music composed from the roaring 1920s to the golden years of the 1950s. The concert features the works of notable composers such as George Gershwin and Leroy Anderson … In August, the orchestra returns to its summer pops series with an Aug. 23 performance of ‘Celebrate Racine.’ The concert features Racine saxophonist and flutist Curt Hanrahan and actor and singer Bob Benson performing pieces from The Mission and the Star Wars Suite.”
