The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of RYAN BEACH as principal trumpet, effective at the beginning of the 2013-14 season. In 2012 Beach was first-prize winner in both the Ellsworth Smith Competition and the International Trumpet Guild Competition, and was a finalist in the National Trumpet Competition in 2009. He holds a bachelor’s degree in music from Oklahoma City University and a master’s from Northwestern University. Beach received further training at Tanglewood Music Center, the University of Maryland’s National Orchestral Institute, and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. At the ISO he succeeds MARVIN C. PERRY II, who has served as principal trumpet since 1975 and will remain with the orchestra as assistant principal/third trumpet.
