On Thursday (6/20), The Boston Globe writes, “It will be all Andris Nelsons all the time Tuesday when the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s new music director makes his first visit to Boston since his appointment in May. James Levine’s successor will appear at Symphony Hall, Faneuil Hall, and Fenway Park in a series of events intended to introduce the 34-year-old Latvian conductor to his adoring fans. Nelsons, who’s currently the music director of the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in England, will begin his day by doing a Q&A with press, BSO subscribers, and musicians at Symphony Hall. He’ll then sign his contract, becoming the 15th music director of the BSO, and have lunch with the orchestra’s board of trustees, overseers, and major benefactors. Later, at Faneuil Hall, Nelsons, who has an 18-month-old daughter with his wife, Latvian soprano Kristine Opolais, will be presented with a proclamation declaring June 25 ‘Andris Nelsons Day’ in Boston, and then it’s off to Fenway to throw out the first pitch at that night’s Sox game against the Colorado Rockies.”
