The Pasadena-based orchestra MUSE/IQUE has announced plans for a three-concert series, “Summer of Sound,” set to take place outdoors at Caltech’s Beckman Mall on June 29, July 27, and August 17. At the opening concert, featuring pop/jazz singer Patti Austin, Music Director Rachael Worby will lead music by Dave Brubeck, the Beatles, Duke Ellington, and Kurt Weill, as well as Glinka and Paganini. The July concert will feature film music by Erich Korngold, Elmer Bernstein, and Jerry Goldsmith, plus a world premiere by Peter Golub, who directs the Sundance Festival’s film music program. The vocalist/pianist Ellis Hall will perform in the August program, which includes selections by Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye, and Steve Wonder, as well as works by Beethoven, Bach, and Vivaldi. In addition to the outdoor concert series, MUSE/IQUE—which Worby founded in 2011—also operates KIDS/IQUE! for boys and girls ages 12 to 18, and has presented pop-up performances at Pasadena’s Phoenix Decorating Center, where the Rose Parade floats are constructed; the Art Center College of Design Sculpture Garden; the printing press Castle Press; and backstage at Pasadena Civic Auditorium.
