The Springfield (Mo.) Symphony has announced the appointment of KYLE WILEY PICKETT as conductor and music director. He goes to Springfield from California’s North State Symphony, an ensemble that he created in 2001 through the merger of the Redding and Chico symphonies. For the past thirteen years Pickett has also been music director and conductor of the Juneau Symphony in Alaska. In addition to his new Springfield post, he will serve as music director of the Topeka Symphony in Kansas (an appointment that was announced April 22 in the “Media View” section of The Hub). A native of Los Gatos, California, Pickett is a graduate of Stanford University and holds a doctoral degree from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University. He plans to reside in Springfield with his wife and two young sons.
