Orchestra Iowa, based in Cedar Rapids, has announced the appointment of LUKE WITCHGER as concertmaster. A 21-year-old student of Catherine Cho at The Juilliard School, he was selected following a nationwide search and a season-long audition process involving four finalists for the position. Witchger appeared as guest concertmaster with Orchestra Iowa on several occasions this season, including a concert that showcased his soloistic talent in the world premiere of Michael Daugherty’s American Gothic, commissioned by the orchestra. Witchger’s orchestral experience includes frequent appearances as a substitute with the Nashville Symphony and the New World Symphony. He is a native of Omaha, Nebraska.
