In the July 5 edition of the St. Louis Business Journal (subscription required), St. Louis Symphony President and CEO Fred Bronstein writes, “In the space of two weeks in June, three major cultural events transpired in St. Louis, events worthy of national and international interest. The Saint Louis Art Museum opened the doors to its new $130.5 million, 200,000-square-foot East Building, which represents the most significant expansion of that facility since the museum’s opening in 1904. The art world descended on St. Louis both to see the extraordinary new building.… The art world descended on St. Louis both to see the extraordinary new building.… Then, there was the premier at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis of Grammy Award winner Terence Blanchard’s Champion, an event that garners national interest.… Finally, the St. Louis Symphony in mid-June hosted the League of American Orchestras’ 68th Conference, the first time since 1966 that the symphony and St. Louis have hosted this major event in the American orchestral world.… The conference brought 950 orchestra administrators, musicians, and volunteers (and an estimated $1.7 million in economic impact) from orchestras across North America to St. Louis for three days of performances, symposiums, and meetings.”
