Cellist YO-YO MA has been named special artistic advisor to the Sphinx Organization, the Detroit-based nonprofit dedicated to diversity in the arts and the advancement of black and Latino string players. He will offer mentorship to Sphinx’s top young artists, in addition to advising the organization and its board on programming strategies. Ma has served as honorary chair of Sphinx’s annual Carnegie Hall concert and as coach to top laureates in the Sphinx Competition.
