Composers ANDREW NORMAN (b. 1979) and TED HEARNE (b. 1982) have been named assistant professors of composition at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music. Norman’s orchestral and chamber works have been performed by such organizations as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, Tonhalle Orchester Zurich, Grand Rapids Symphony, New York Philharmonic, Oregon Symphony, Tanglewood Festival of Contemporary Music, and Aspen Music Festival. His training includes composition studies at both USC and Yale. Hearne, also a singer and bandleader, has written works for the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the European Contemporary Orchestra, the Boston-based chamber orchestra A Far Cry, the Brooklyn Philharmonic, and the Albany Symphony Orchestra. He is a member of the six-person composer collective Sleeping Giant. Hearne attended the Manhattan School of Music and Yale School of Music.
