Chicago Opera Theater has announced the appointment of HENRY FOGEL as president of its Board of Directors. He has been a member of the COT board since 2009, and since July of that year has been affiliated with Roosevelt University as dean of its Chicago College of Performing Arts. From 2003 to 2008 Fogel was president and CEO of the League of American Orchestras. Prior to assuming that administrative post he served for a decade on the League’s Board of Directors, including two years (2001-03) as chairman. During his career as an orchestral administrator Fogel served as president of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (1985-2003), executive director of the National Symphony Orchestra (1981-85), and orchestra manager of the New York Philharmonic (1978-81). Fogel has been an observer for the Opera Program of the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as a panelist for the NEA and for state arts councils in New York, Ohio, Missouri, and Illinois. As a board member he has contributed to numerous nonprofit organizations including the Chicago Classical Music Recording Foundation, the Avery Fisher Artist Program, WFMT Committee of the WTTW Board, and the Curtis Institute of Music.
