The Georgia Symphony Orchestra, based in Marietta, has appointed KATHERINE HOLLAND general manager of the Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra & Chorus. An active freelance bassoonist and educator currently on the faculty at Mercer University (Macon, Ga.), she serves as principal bassoon in the LaGrange (Ga.) Symphony Orchestra and is a member of the Atlanta Chamber Winds and the Anon Ensemble. Holland has performed with the Charleston, Atlanta, Greenville, Asheville, and Macon symphony orchestras, as well as with Mexico’s Orquesta Sinfonica UANL and a variety of opera companies. She holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from Tennessee Tech University and both master’s and doctoral degrees in bassoon performance from Stony Brook (N.Y.) University.
