Canada’s Orchestre symphonique de Montréal will present 30 symphonic, chamber, and family concerts at multiple venues throughout the city of Montreal on August 16 and 17. Billed as “A Cool Classical Journey,” it marks the second year for the summer event, which the orchestra reports was a success in 2012. Concerts last 45 minutes each and will include six OSM performances led by Music Director Kent Nagano at Maison Symphonique de Montréal, the orchestra’s new home opened in September 2011. Other concerts will take place at Cinquième Salle and the Studio Theatre—both at the Place des Arts—and Musée contemporain de Montréal. Many concerts will feature music by or inspired by Mozart, with soloists and chamber ensembles to include pianists Menahem Pressler, Angela Hewitt, and Kit Armstrong; violinists Augustin Dumay, Hyeyoon Park, and Alexandra Da Costa; clarinetist Jörg Widmann; Violons du Roy; and the Canadian Brass. Also planned over the two days are instrument demonstrations and instrument-making workshops, as well as opportunities for audiences to meet musicians at the Salon urbain at the place des Arts.
