Australia’s Melbourne Symphony Orchestra has appointed DALE BARLTROP to one of its two concertmaster positions. He will begin his duties there in 2014, filling the position left vacant by MARKUS TOMASI in 2009. In his first year, Barltrop will share concertmaster responsibilities with WILMA SMITH, who recently announced that she would be retiring from the MSO at the end of 2014. Barltrop, a native of Brisbane, Australia, is currently concertmaster of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra in British Columbia, Canada, and will continue to hold that position.
