Artistic: Dallas Symphony

JEFF TYZIK has been named to the Dot and Paul Mason Principal Pops Conductor’s Podium at the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, succeeding the late Marvin Hamlisch. His initial three-year appointment takes effect at the start of the 2013-14 season. Tyzik will lead the DSO Pops Series at Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center as well as pops performances during the orchestra’s annual summer residency at Colorado’s Bravo! Vail music festival. He first conducted the DSO in 2005 and has returned in subsequent years, most recently leading two Pops Series concerts during the 2012-13 season. In addition to his new DSO responsibilities, Tyzik will celebrate his 20th season as principal pops conductor of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra in the 2013-14 season. He also holds principal pops conducting posts at the Florida Orchestra and the Oregon, Vancouver (B.C.), Seattle, and Detroit symphonies. An accomplished composer and arranger as well as a conductor, Tyzik holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Eastman School of Music.
