The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra in Tennessee has received a $1 million grant from the Aslan Foundation, to be spread out over five years and focusing on three specific projects, beginning this fall with the start of the 2013-14 season. Five members of the KSO’s woodwind section will transition from per-service musicians to full-time musicians in the core orchestra, joining nineteen other full-time string players. “Welcoming five musicians to the ranks of our full-time core will be transformational to the KSO and its education programs which impact so many audiences here in East Tennessee,” said Music Director Lucas Richman in a press release. The grant will also finance the KSO Chamber Classics series and subsidize $15 concert tickets for each concert in the series. “The grant allows the KSO financial stability to undertake key strategic efforts. We look forward to rolling out increased numbers of affordable tickets and welcoming new patrons to hear our very talented local musicians,” said KSO Executive Director Rachel Ford. The Aslan Foundation supports a variety of educational, social, and cultural organizations throughout Knoxville.
