JIM BLACK has announced plans to step down as executive director of California’s San Luis Obispo Symphony in order to focus on family commitments and responsibilities. He assumed the executive director post in 2011 to help with the orchestra’s transition to new leadership after the department of Brian Hermanson. Black was a board member of the organization for many years, serving as chair of the Music Education Committee and, during the 2006-07 season, as president. He will continue to serve as executive director until his replacement is found. The orchestra’s board of directors has launched a nationwide search, with the goal of having a new executive director in place by December 2013.
