The Muncie (Ind.) Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of DOUGLAS DROSTE as artistic director. The sixth conductor to hold the orchestra’s top artistic post in its 65-year history, Droste is also the newly appointed director of orchestras at Ball State University in Muncie. He has served as director of orchestral studies at Oklahoma State University and principal guest conductor of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, and helped to establish the opera studies program at OSU. Droste has also been music director of the Oklahoma Youth Symphony and has taught at Austin Peay State University in Tennessee and Liberty Union-Thurston School District in Ohio. He holds degrees from Ohio State University and Texas Tech University, with further conducting studies at the Pierre Monteux School and Oregon Bach Festival.
