ELIZABETH SCHURGIN has been named executive director of the DC Youth Orchestra Program. A 2011 alumna of New England Conservatory’s Sistema Fellowship program, she has served as a consultant to youth-music initiatives across the U.S. and was interim director of B Sharp Youth Music, an after-school orchestra and ensemble program in Fort Worth, Texas. Also a classically trained bassoonist and member of the Blackberry Winter Trio, Schurgin has given master classes in the U.S. and Venezuela and performed through Europe, Asia, and the Americas. She holds a Master of Music degree from Yale and a Master of Music in Orchestral Performance degree from Manhattan School of Music.
