In Wednesday’s (9/18) Washington Post, Katherine Boyle reports that the National Symphony Orchestra has extended the contract of Principal Pops Conductor Steven Reineke through the 2017-18 season. Reineke, first named to that post in 2011 to succeed Marvin Hamlisch, “also serves as music director of the New York Pops and pops conductor of the Long Beach and Modesto symphony orchestras in California. ‘Steven Reineke’s broad musical interests have brought new ideas and new programming to the NSO,’ the orchestra’s executive director, Rita Shapiro, said in a statement. ‘We are delighted to know that Steven will continue to imbue the NSO Pops with variety and enthusiasm.’ ” The NSO will open its 2013-14 pops season on September 19 with the first of four concerts featuring Cirque de la Symphonie.
