A Monday (9/23) post at the website of the International Federation of Musicians reads, “In a huge concert bringing together 23 orchestras, Spanish musicians intend to protest against the drastic reductions in orchestra members and the increase in VAT on cultural services from 8 to 21%. At 7 pm (CEST) on 23 September, over 1,000 musicians will, in 16 different cities, be simultaneously proposing the same symphony programme. Organised by the AMPOS association [Asociación de Músicos Profesionales de Orquestas Sinfónicas ] and AIE [Artistas Interpretes o Ejecutantes] collecting society, this event continues and extends the protest movement in the music sector in face of the radical austerity measures affecting numerous orchestras in the country and jeopardizing the national cultural backdrop.” The concert program listed for the protest concerts was: Overture to La Gazza Ladra (Rossini), La Boda de Luis Alonso (G. Giménez), and Todos Somos Música (Luis Cobos).
