Astral Artists, a Philadelphia-based nonprofit dedicated to providing career guidance and performance opportunities to gifted classical musicians, has announced the appointments of JULIA RUBIO as executive director; AMY SUE BARSTON as artistic programs director; and KRISTEN GOLIA as director of development.

Julia Rubio, executive director, has served as director of development at Astral Artists; as executive director of the Black Pearl Chamber Orchestra and of the Hatboro-Horsham Educational Foundation (Horsham, Pa.); and as director of development at the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia. A former instrumental music teacher, she holds a master’s degree in performing arts management from Columbia College Chicago, a bachelor’s degree in music education from Miami University, and a performer’s certificate in viola from the Luxembourg National Conservatory of Music. 

Amy Sue Barston, artistic programs director, is an active cello soloist and chamber musician. She is also co-artistic director of the Canandaigua Lake Music Festival in Upstate New York. Barston holds a master’s degree from The Juilliard School, where she also serves on the Pre-College Division faculty.

Kristen Golia, director of development, goes to Astral from Intercultural Journeys, where she was managing director. Prior to her career in arts management she was an elementary school teacher in South Park, Pa., and has also worked extensively as a content consultant at the digital agency Epam-Empathy Lab. She holds a master’s degree in education from Duquesne University and a bachelor’s degree from Clarion University of Pennsylvania, with a double major in elementary education and early childhood development.
