The Santa Rosa Symphony in California announced the launch this week of “SOCIAL IMPACT: Connecting Communities through Classical Music,” through which it will distribute free tickets to underserved youth to its 2013-14 concerts via partnerships with six local nonprofit groups. Most tickets will be in the first row of the Weill Hall at Sonoma State University’s Green Music Center, the orchestra’s new home. The program is supported by an anonymous sponsor, and the orchestra will donate back 20 percent of the value of every ticket used to the partner agencies. The partner agencies for 2013-14 are Big Brothers Big Sisters of the North Bay, YWCA Sonoma County, Social Advocates for Youth, California Parenting Institute, Chops Teen Club, and the Boys & Girls Club of Central Sonoma County. The Santa Rosa Symphony opens its season on October 5, with Bruno Ferrandis leading John Adams’s Short Ride in a Fast Machine, Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony, and Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1, with soloist Tedi Papavrami.
