Artistic: Richmond Philharmonic

The Richmond Philharmonic, a musician-run community orchestra based in Richmond, Virginia, has announced the appointment of violinist and conductor PETER WILSON as music director, effective September 1, 2013. Also music director of the Waynesboro (Va.) Symphony Orchestra, a post he has held since 2007, Wilson is concertmaster of the American Festival Pops Orchestra, headquartered at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., and holds the post of String Section Commander in the United States Marine Band. As a guest conductor he has led such ensembles as the National Gallery Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra. A native of Cleveland, Wilson is a graduate of Northwestern University (Evanston, Ill.) and holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. In 2008 he trained with Leonard Slatkin as a participant in the National Symphony Orchestra’s National Conducting Institute.
