“The Cleveland Orchestra has announced the location of its next neighborhood residency: Lakewood,” writes Zachary Lewis in Monday’s (10/21) Plain Dealer (Cleveland, Ohio). “Following the success of last year’s series of concerts and educational events in Cleveland’s Gordon Square Arts District, the ensemble this May will present a similar residency a few miles farther west, in a suburb renowned for its artistic, economic and social diversity. ‘It has to be a top priority to nurture the home ground,’ said music director Franz Welser-Möst, who’ll lead a free performance by the full orchestra Friday, May 24, at Lakewood’s Civic Auditorium.… Much like last year’s Gordon Square residency, the full residency—scheduled for May 17 to 24 and titled ‘The Cleveland Orchestra at Home in Lakewood’—will consist largely of appearances by individual musicians and small chamber ensembles at nontraditional locations, such as coffee shops, bars and other local businesses. All such events will be free and open to the public. Also like last year, several musicians will lead educational programs throughout the week at area schools, and certain events will entail collaboration with Lakewood-based arts and cultural organizations.”
