In Friday’s (10/25) Times-Picayune (New Orleans), Doug MacCash reports, “Hollywood star and New Orleans resident John Goodman will join the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra on Veterans Day (Nov. 11) for a performance at the National WWII Museum. Goodman will narrate during the playing of Lincoln Portrait by Aaron Copland.… During the Veterans Day performance, the LPO also will premiere Dreams of the Fallen, a choral and orchestral composition written by Jake Runestad and featuring Jeffrey Biegel on solo piano. Runestad hopes to convey the psychological aftermath of war on returning soldiers. The work was inspired by the poetry of U.S. Army veteran Brian Turner. ‘Thousands of veterans struggle to assimilate back into everyday life after living through a traumatic wartime experience,’ Runestad said in a written statement. ‘We hear very little of the continued struggles that these soldiers experience, and so I hope to shine a light on their stories with this new musical work.’ … In addition … the LPO will perform ‘Fanfare for the Common Man’ by Copland and ‘Belle of the Ball,’ “Blue Tango’ and ‘Bugler’s Holiday’ by Leroy Anderson.”
