“The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center will soon be summering upstate as a result of an agreement with the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.,” writes Pia Catton in Monday’s (10/28) Wall Street Journal. “Beginning in August 2014, the group will become the venue’s resident chamber-music ensemble.… A Saratoga Performing Arts Center spokeswoman said the expectation is that this would be a ‘long-term residency.’ New York City Ballet and the Philadelphia Orchestra are also resident companies at the venue.… The festival, to be formally known as the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center at SPAC, is a three-week, six-concert series…. For the venue, the partnership replaces what had been known as the Saratoga Chamber Music Festival, founded in 1991. David Finckel and Wu Han, the Chamber Music Society’s co-artistic directors, said the ensemble had been looking for a way to build its audience through a regular summer festival outside of New York City…. ‘It allows us to build a community in the most intensive way,’ said Mr. Finckel. ‘You end up having dinner with your audience. You end up making friends,’ said Ms. Han. ‘The audience tends to be devotees or are ready to absorb in the summer setting.’ ”
