In Tuesday’s (10/29) San Antonio Express-News (Texas), David Hendricks reports, “San Antonio Symphony Music Director Sebastian Lang-Lessing, nearing the end of his four-season contract, will sign an extension in a ceremony Tuesday for five additional years, through the 2018-19 season, the symphony announced Monday.… ‘We feel it’s a huge statement by Sebastian that he is committing five more years of his professional life to San Antonio,’ said David Gross, the symphony’s new general manager. ‘He’s the right person to take us to the next level we need to be the orchestra we have the potential to become.’ ‘There’s much more we want to do together as an orchestra and with this community,’ Lang-Lessing said, citing the symphony’s move from the Majestic Theatre downtown after this season to the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, which is scheduled to open in time for the 2014-15 season.… Gross said Monday that Valero [Energy Corp.] and H-E-B are increasing their annual donations to the symphony for the next three years.… ‘I think [the increased donation levels] sends a strong message that we’re headed in a good direction and that this symphony is a good investment for the community,’ Gross said.”
