In Thursday’s (11/14) Chicago Tribune, Patrick Guinane writes, “An accomplished young French violinist who has collaborated with Swiss, German, Russian and Japanese orchestras will make her Chicago-area debut Saturday in Frankfort. Alexandra Soumm will accompany the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra in the program ‘Austrian Classics with an American Twist’ in an 8 p.m. show at the Lincoln-Way North Performing Arts Center. Selections will include Mozart, Beethoven and a neoclassical piece written by Grammy-winning American composer William Bolcom, a University of Michigan faculty member. Andrew Bradford, the orchestra’s executive director, said one of Music Director David Danzmayr’s artistic goals is to incorporate an American piece in every concert.” Also on the program are Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 and Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 3. “Soumm, who made her American debut Nov. 8 with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, will be showcased in the Mozart composition.… ‘It’s a big honor for a professional regional orchestra like the Illinois Philharmonic to be able to present an artist of this caliber in her Chicago debut. We feel like she is a great find,’ he said.” The article reports that the Illinois Philharmonic will launch chamber-music concerts in 2014.
