“A new crowdfunding platform offered by the Arts and Education Council of Greater St. Louis (A&E) for local art and culture nonprofits will allow those organizations to raise funds in a new way, its backers say,” writes Brian Feldt in Wednesday’s (11/13) St. Louis Business Journal (Missouri). “Power2give, a project of the Arts & Science Council of Charlotte, N.C., has launched a St. Louis chapter, which now features nearly 30 projects in need of funding. Those projects are asking for between $3,000 and $10,000…. Projects now live on the site include initiatives from the Sheldon Arts Foundation, St. Louis Classical Guitar Society and the Opera Theater of Saint Louis. Cindy Prost, president of A&E, said that since its soft launch last week, the site has garnered more than 150 donations, which have averaged $33. ‘That’s exactly what a lot of our research has shown,’ she said. ‘The site is not designed for the major giver.… Philanthropic fundraising is changing because of the demographics and technology.… More and more, people want this info on their phone or computer or tablet. We really see this as a tool to help us get into that space.’ … According to a statement from Power2give, the platform is now operational in 18 other cities.”
