The three winners of the 2013 Young Concert Artists Auditions are clarinetist Raphaël Sévère (19; Rennes, France), violinist Stephen Waarts (17; San Francisco, U.S.), and pianist Yunqing Zhou (24; Shenyang, China). The winners—selected from eleven finalists at the finals held on November 9 at Merkin Hall in New York City—will join the YCA management roster for three years and perform next season at Merkin Hall as well as the Terrace Theater in Washington D.C. and Boston’s Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. YCA Director Susan Wadsworth chaired the jury, whose members included conductor Gerard Schwarz; violinist Sanford Allen; violists Kazuhide Isomura and Scott Nickrenz; cellist Edward Arron; clarinetist Paul Green; harpist Sivan Magen; and pianists Jerome Lowenthal, Israela Margalit, and Anne Akiko Meyers.
