The Omaha Symphony has announced that it will hold a three-day conductor symposium in Omaha, Nebraska for emerging conductors from May 1 to 3. During the symposium, participants will work with Omaha Symphony’s music director, Thomas Wilkins, and David Loebel, associate director of orchestras for New England Conservatory’s College Division and music director of the NEC Youth Philharmonic Orchestra. The symposium will include an hour of podium time for each participant, with the Omaha Symphony serving as the orchestra; sessions focusing on orchestral conducting technique and accompanying vocal soloists; and an organizational seminar on how to work with board, staff, and orchestra musicians. Sixteen participants and ten auditors will be selected for the symposium. The deadline to apply is February 1 to apply. More details, including how to apply, can be found at the Omaha Symphony website.
