Make Music New York has announced details of its third annual Make Music Winter event, held outdoors throughout New York City on December 21, the winter solstice. The festival will feature multiple musical parades that invite public participation, including “Bell By Bell” by composer Tom Peyton, featuring handbells; “Blink,” composed by Merche Blasco for bicycle bells; “A Love Riot—Harmonabord Parade,” composed by Jonathan Batiste for melodicas, with free instruments provided to the first 25 participants and others encouraged to bring their own instruments; “Thru-Line” by James Holt—a composer who is also on staff at the League of American Orchestras—with musicians invited to listen and participate by boarding specified G subway trains; and “Peregrine,” Phil Kline’s boombox parade, with boomboxes provided to the first 50 participants. A complete listing of events is posted at Make Music New York.
