“The dream of a new performing arts center on Cape Cod has resurfaced,” writes Patrick Cassidy in Thursday’s (12/12) Cape Cod Times (Hyannis, Mass.). “Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra and Conservatory of Music and Arts officials announced plans Thursday for the latest iteration. ‘We would envision a concert hall for the 21st century,’ symphony artistic director and conductor Jung-Ho Pak said. The location and cost of the facility, or how exactly it will be paid for, are still to be decided, said Warren Marsh, president of Ocean Side Performance Center, the nonprofit organization formed in April to pursue the concept…. Ocean Side has hired the arts consulting firm AMS Planning and Research to conduct a feasibility study for the project, using a $75,000 loan from the symphony and conservatory’s endowment fund. The two organizations joined forces in 2010. The symphony, which would be the primary user of the new center, currently performs at the 1,400-seat Barnstable High School Performing Arts Center…. Over the past two decades, attempts to build a separate performing arts center have repeatedly faltered.… Organizers have concluded that the center should be located in the Mid-Cape area and … several properties in Hyannis [are] being eyed for redevelopment that fit the bill.”
