The Dallas Symphony Orchestra has appointed KARINA CANELLAKIS assistant conductor. She studied conducting with Marin Alsop as the 2013 winner of Alsop’s Taki Concordia Conducting Fellowship. Canellakis has appeared frequently as guest conductor for New York’s International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE); recently made her Carnegie Hall conducting debut at Zankel Hall through the “American Soundscapes” contemporary music workshop; and has conducted the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra in concert and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra and Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich in master classes with Bernard Haitink and David Zinman, respectively. Canellakis holds a bachelor’s degree in violin from the Curtis Institute of Music and a master’s degree in orchestral conducting from The Juilliard School, where she studied with Alan Gilbert and James Ross. As a violinist she has spent several summers at Marlboro Music in Vermont.
