“The Norwalk Symphony Orchestra will host its second annual Young Artist Festival on Saturday, Feb. 1, in the Norwalk Concert Hall,” reads an unsigned article in Wednesday’s (12/18) Norwalk Citizen (Connecticut). “The daylong event is open to Fairfield County string students of all levels who have at least two years of study and have not yet graduated from high school.… The festival will also host a concerto competition, open to all musicians on any instrument through high school, with the winner playing at the Norwalk Symphony’s March 9 concert. ‘The primary purpose of this festival is to give young musicians the opportunity to perform in the context of the greater Fairfield County musical community,’ Becki Christopherson, festival coordinator and Norwalk Symphony board member, said… Younger students with at least two years of study are invited to perform for judges and receive constructive feedback and recognition. Older string students with at least four years of study can perform longer pieces and receive adjudicated feedback. … The deadline to apply is Monday, Dec. 23, for registration and Saturday, Jan. 11, for video submissions. A registration brochure is available on the symphony’s website, www.norwalksymphony.org.”
