The Ulster Orchestra in Northern Ireland has appointed RAFAEL PAYARE chief conductor, effective with the 2014-15 season. A native of Venezuela and former member of the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra, he is the 2012 winner of Denmark’s Malko Conducting Competition and has worked with such leading conductors as José Antonio Abreu, Gustavo Dudamel, Claudio Abbado, Bernard Haitink, and Daniel Barenboim. In Ulster he will succeed JOANN FALLETTA, whose three-year term as chief conductor expires in September 2014.
