ROGER MALFATTI has announced his upcoming retirement as executive director of the Florence (S.C.) Symphony Orchestra. He has informed the board of directors of his wish to step down by the end of this season, but no precise date has been set; Malfatti has agreed to remain in the post until his successor is chosen, a process that is now underway. He has spent many years in the arts, including orchestra management posts in Long Island, N.Y.; Des Moines, Iowa; and Savannah, Ga. During his three years at the Florence Symphony he has overseen a period of significant expansion in subscriptions, earned revenue, and contributions.
