The Cleveland International Piano Competition announced that it has restructured its Young Artist Competition, next scheduled to occur in May 2015 at Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio. Established in 2005 as a one-day competition for Ohio piano students, the program will now be open to pianists from any country and will follow a multi-round format. Approximately 25 pianists will be selected to compete in the competition’s junior category (age 12 to 15) and senior category (age 16 to 18). Students in each age group will perform three solo rounds and one final round with orchestra in front of audiences and a professional jury of judges from the U.S., Serbia, South Africa, Germany, South Korea, and China. Prizes in the junior division will range from $2,500 to $10,000, and in the senior division from $5,000 to $25,000. The competition will feature guest-artist recitals and symposia, and students will receive coaching and master classes from members of the jury and guests lecturers. Students should apply through an online process, with further details to be announced this spring.
